More than1.800 seafarers have alreadybeen trained at Siport21Ship Manoeuvring Simulation Center whichfacesa very busy lastquarter. This Center, approved by DNV as Maritime Training Provider, offers its clients tailor-made training programs based on its own methodology with great success among seafarers. These courses have a main aim to improve safety in ship manoeuvring, based onthe familiarization of seafarers with complex navigation and manoeuvring areas, under the local conditions of each port. These courses facilitate as well communication and coordination with local Pilots.
Otherwise, Siport21 offersa Training Programme, a combined International Maritime Organization learning programme: IMO 1.22 (Ship Simulator and Bridge Teamwork) and IMO 1.39 (Leadership and Teamwork).This course, complying with DNV-ST-0008, is for seafarers of whatever type of vessel, as wellas for other maritime industry employees.
Maritime Resource Management(MRM)courses are also available in this TrainingCenter. The aim of these courses is to minimize the risk of incidents by encouraging safeand responsible behaviour. Thesecoursesmeet the requirements definedin the IMO International Convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), (Manila Amendments 2010).
The courseswill also respond to the anticipated demand with the immediate entry into force of the new vessel inspection regime (SIRE 2.0), developed by OCIMF (Oil Companies International Marine Forum).
The number of these activities has increased during the last years in response to the concern related to maritime safety and improvement of quality of the Captains, Officers, and Pilots’ training. These training courses provide seafarers with more confidence and knowledge in new maritime operations or emergency scenarios.
