Nautical RiskAssessmenton Offshore Wind FarmsApplying Big Data and Artificial Intelligence
In several European projects, Siport21 has applied a methodology of nautical risk assessment on offshore wind farms that includes Big Data and Artificial Intelligence techniques.
The location of an offshore wind farm should be carefully studied to analyze its impact on maritime traffic. The methodology for nautical risks assessment, developed by Siport21, allows the proposedlocation to be evaluated in detail, considers all the related factors, definesfuture scenarios with new infrastructures and incorporates different hypotheses about the evolution of maritime traffic, both in typology and frequency of operations.
This methodology, which Siport21 has already applied in several projects, incorporates new tools based on Big Data techniques, Data Analytics and DataViz (Artificial Intelligence algorithms to identify space-time relationships betweenthe various traffic and physical conditions with advanced representation methods). These techniques allow to analyze vast volumes of data efficiently.
The new methodology combines the mathematical model of traffic prediction, Siflow21, with the evaluation of nautical risks. As a result, it allowsto establish the safetyand service levels of the offshore wind energy area.
This combination makes it possible to identify the mainrisk factors and define contingency measures to reduce the risk level, ensuringthat itremainsbelow acceptable limits (definition of collision risks, exclusion zones, navigation channels, additional resources, protection plans, signaling, …).
