Designed for Captains, Officers, and Pilots, Siport21 Maritime Training Centre has expanded its portfolio with a new course “Shiphandling of Large Vessels” for training on these kinds of ships (VLCCs, bulkcarriers, containerships, or LNGCs).
The aim of the course, approved by DNV, is to familiarize the attendees with these vessels, their different propulsion systems and manoeuvring capacity by means of theoretical lectures and practice runs in real-time simulators. The course includes as well emergency manoeuvres, which are essential to improve the safety of nautical operations.
After their Maritime Training Provider certification by DNV, Siport21 has extended its Training Programmes. Nowadays, they offer a combined International Maritime Organization learning programme: IMO 1.22 (Ship Simulator and Bridge Teamwork) and IMO 1.39 (Leadership and Teamwork), a course in Maritime Resource Management – MRM/GRM, and other tailor-made training programs based on the needs of the clients.
The courses meet the requirements defined in the IMO International Convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCWS) (Manila Amendments 2010). The courses will also respond to the anticipated demand with the entry into force this year of the new vessel inspection regime (SIRE 2.0), developed by OCIMF (Oil Companies International Marine Forum).
Since its foundation, the main aim of Siport21 Real-Time Simulation Training Centre is to improve safety in ship manoeuvring, based on the familiarization of seafarers with complex navigation and manoeuvring areas, under the local conditions of each particular port or fairway. In addition, these courses facilitate communication and coordination with local Pilots.
The Maritime Training Centre, which has already trained nearly 2.000 seafarers, is immersed in a complete renovation process which will bring it among the best and most advanced simulators in the World.
